Alan Cabelly, Ph.D, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Leadership and Teambuilding Expert, Coach, Leader

Throughout the modern era, workers have faced challenges when attempting to work effectively with members of different generations.  This workshop will explore why that occurs, giving background information about the different generations, while helping participants to understand how we naturally change our goals, values, and orientations as we age.  Members of the different age groups will actually speak with each other!  We'll develop solutions that will help us work well with each other, and we'll play with tech, social media, microfeedback, and reverse feedback.  You might even improve your relationship with family members.

    About the speaker:

Alan Cabelly (Ph. D., University of Washington) has been a Human Resource Management faculty member at Portland State University since 1980.  He teaches Leadership and Human Resource Management at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels, as well as to many groups nationally and internationally. He teaches actively around the world, most recently in Viet Nam, France, China, and Germany.  These and other diverse travel experiences allow him to bring unique approaches to his work.

Prof. Cabelly is founder and Executive Director of the Portland Leadership Institute (www.portlandleadershipinstitute.com), which focuses on Leadership Excellence in the 21st century.  He uses the DiSC© system and other contemporary techniques for Executive and Leadership Coaching, and speaks extensively on Employee Engagement; Strategic Negotiations; Generation Similarities and Differences in the Workplace; Authentic Leadership; Using Whole Brain Thinking for Increased Effectiveness; Work for the 21st Century; and various HRM topics.  His personal mission is to help individuals increase their leadership skills and improve the functioning of their work teams.  He helps people find passion in their work life environment, leading to greater individual engagement and satisfaction, and increased organization productivity.  The blog on the Institute web pages identifies this work and describes much of his international work in detail.

Prof. Cabelly was founding Chapter Advisor of the PSU Chapter of SHRM.  Since its inception in 1982, it has won 34 consecutive Superior Merit Awards from SHRM, and has won numerous SHRM and NHRMA student competitions, as well as receiving Chapter of the Year recognition.  He has been named SHRM Advisor of the Year, twice Distinguished Member of NHRMA, and earned the Human Resources Award of Excellence from PHRMA.  He was President of NHRMA in 2000, Director of the Oregon State Council of SHRM in 2009, and currently serves on the Oregon State Council Conference Committee, and PHRMA’s 2016 Strategic Management Conference Committee.  For many years he served on the SHRM College Relations Steering Committee.  In his spare time he gardens, travels the world, and remains physically active.
